Beach Life

A wide, sandy beach with the ocean to the left, a person walking in the distance and buildings even further in the background Street lined with green trees and orange flowers as well as building with wooden structures, pictured from another rooftop In exchange for accommodation, we volunteered in a hostel in the small town of MontaƱita, where the jungle meets the Pacific ocean.

Rocks in front of waves on the ocean under a grey sky Since work was not that hard and it was rather low season in November, we had plenty of time to our disposal. Naturally we surfed the beach break in front of our door a lot - even though most days were cloudy, both water and air were warm enough to enjoy a session in a thin shorty or even just boardshorts.

A tropical white beach with some chairs and a bay of light blue water with boats as well as some green trees and bushes at the shore A friend also took us snorkeling at a microscopic "island" off a boat from the beautiful Playa de Ayangue. We swam with multiple turtles, seals, pufferfish and lots of other colourful creatures!

A grey cat on an orange table, looking into the camera Of course we befriended some of the very cute local cats of the hostel, to the effect of suffering from a slightly broken heart when we left and had to leave them behind.

The front door and wall of Lost Beach Club from the inside, with a very colourful mural Aside from salsa, reggaeton and traditional music in the streets and bars, MontaƱita is home to the prominent Lost Beach Club, which combined decent tech house and melodic techno with very colourful murals all over the (quite large) complex when we visited.
